Troops kill 94 terrorists in one week – Army

The Army has reported that in the past week, troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria have successfully eliminated 94 terrorists and apprehended 214 suspects, which included kidnappers and oil thieves in various operations. The Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, disclosed these details while briefing the media on the activities of the armed forces in Abuja on Thursday.

Within the week, the troops also managed to rescue 29 hostages and seized 168 assorted weapons and 2,757 assorted ammunition. In the North East, a significant number of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists and their families, comprising of 11 adult males, 65 adult females and 92 children, surrendered to troops within the theatre of operations between January 17 and 24.

During the operations, the troops of Operation Hadin Kai neutralised 27 terrorists, arrested four others, and recovered 22 AK47 rifles and one Vektor R4 rifle, among other items. The air component carried out air interdiction on the terrorists’ hideouts and movements of gun trucks, targeting coordinated attacks on troops and civilians in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno.

Various locations were attacked and bombarded with rockets and cannons, resulting in the deaths of numerous terrorists and the destruction of their mobility and structures. In the North Central region, troops of Operation Safe Haven also arrested suspected violent extremists and insurgents, preventing Fulani militia attacks on locals in Mangu, Bokkos, and Wase Local Government Areas of Plateau during the week.
